CM Lim Guan Eng & Penang govt must support UMNO motion on land reclamation

Penang MCA liaison committee secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong urged Penang government to support UMNO’s land reclamation motion because it is truly a people-centric motion.
Lim said, if UMNO was really going for the people, he would support UMNO’s motion in DUN. So I now urge him to support the motion immediately, because this motion suggested the new reclamation projects must consult the public first, which is a people-centric motion.”
He condemned Lim diverted public attention on reclaimed lands issue. When Umno asked him to consult public in the “new” reclamation projects, he said abolishing the “old” projects will cause bankruptcy to state government.
“Does he know exactly what is ‘new’ and what is ‘old’ ?”
Tan Chuan Hong criticized the state government as continuing to lie on the reclamation issue and this proves that they have an ulterior motive. He urged the state government not to repeatedly lie and it should release all Penang reclamation projects and consult the public before the commencement of the project.
“Before and after the DUN, the Penang Government’s announcement shows very different figures of reclamation projects. People are dissatisfied with the state government because they are not only a liar, but they may have an ulterior motive!”
He pointed out that before the DUN, Lim insisted that the state government approved only 60 acres of reclamation, but after the DUN, Penang EXCO Chow Kon Yeow announced the SRS Group will reclaim 4,000 acres land at Southern Penang Island, which are three artificial Islands, one more than 2000 acres, one more than 1000 acres, another one is 800 acres.
How will people believe the state government?
“BN only approved 1474 acres reclamation projects within 40 years. But PH state government’s approval went up to 4211 acres within 8 years ie 2,791 acres more than BN. How incredible!”
Tan Chuan Hong pointed out that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said only 60 acres at first, and only admitted that the state government approved a 211 acres when under pressure of opposition leader YB Dato Jahara and YB Dato Farid in DUN.

He said when Lim was presenting Penang Budget 2016, Lim said Penang approved a total of 60 acres of reclamation projects including 35 acres of Bayan Mutiara and 24.79 acres of Bayan Bay. When he could not stand the opposition repeatedly asking, finally he revealed in summarizing the state government approved a total of 211 acres, which STP2 will hand over 151 acres to state government (20 acres for Outer Ring Road) plus the 60 acres announced earlier.
“Lim explained 151 acres for public infrastructure purpose. So there is no mention in Penang Budget 2016. But no one would agree with his statement.”
He said the state government has repeatedly lied. Dubiously there may be many hidden reclamation projects were not disclosed, including rumors Middle Bank reclamation. He urged the Penang state government announced once all reclamation projects now!
On the other hand, Penang MCA liaison committee deputy secretary Tan Lee Huat also criticized Lim Guan Eng hypocritically pretended that he dislikes reclamation. in fact, STP2 approved by the former BN government only 740 acres, but the present government has granted more than 20 acres and the newly added 131 acres in Gurney Drive. STP2 Reclamation has been expanded to 891 acres.
“Now we know how much Lim Guan Eng likes the reclamation! The most important thing is he must go through public consultation before reclamation. But his walks on his own way and looked down Penangites.”
Tan Chuan Hong said another lie of Penang state government is Lim Guan Eng said that BN sell land to E&O with RM1 but in fact E&O paid RM42 million to buy the land.
In addition, Tan Lee Huat said since the PR government ‘Ubah’ to PH government, Penang has gone through various issues, which repeatedly shows that the Penang government began to abandon public opinion and plays blind and deaf. Opinions from NGOs have fallen on deaf ears.
“As the result, safe areas have also suffered floods now. The Penang Government has not yet even built a low-cost home since they have been in power for 8 years. In addition, 4,211 acres of reclamation and the Bukit Botak issue are also contrary to the Greener Penang slogan and undermines nature.“
He reminded Penangites that 1st and 2nd class heritage houses in Georgetown will be destroyed. “This is because the state government has approved a lot of development projects in heritage area.”
“So Penangites must say ‘no’ to the Penang Government loudly before it is too late. If not, Penangites will only to regret after Lim Guan Eng destroyed precious nature and housing benefits in Penang.”
